Details make all the difference! In this workshop you will learn how to refine some common poses and sequences of poses. The key to refinement is learning how to better adapt poses to fit your body and where you are with your yoga practice. You will also practice common transitions between poses and learn how to modify to meet your comfort level and range of motion. This workshop is limited to 10 students, giving you more time to ask questions and explore the answers as well as opportunities to learn from each other and get more one on one attention.
Instructor — Katy Steadman
Katy Steadman has been teaching yoga since 2001. She teaches in a style that ignites a sense of curiosity into exploring the self. Her method has developed from her training in a variety of yoga traditions, and settings.
In Hawaii, Katy studied with Nicki Doane and Eddie Modestini whose teachings reflect the beauty and wisdom of the Krishnamacharaya lineage. While living, working, and practicing with Nicki and Eddie she completed two Maya Yoga teacher trainings and travelled to India with her yoga family to study with Sri K Pattabhi Jois. Such a blessing!
Since Landing in the Bay Area in 2007, Katy has studied mostly the traditional Iyengar lineage, and has also learned a lot from the simplicity, and focus of Jason Crandell’s classes. She completed the Yoga Philosophy Program at CIIS, Restorative Yoga with Judith Lasater, and Pre/Post Natal Yoga with the completely awesome Jane Austin. She subs for Jane regularly, and loves working with the Mamas! More recently, Katy has been touched beyond words by her Sanskrit teacher, Bhavani Maki. Katy views the knowledge within the Yoga Sutras as an important key for us all to truly live our practice, and thoroughly enjoys taking the opportunity to weave this information into her classes.
In practice, this history leads Katy to give information and make adjustments so that students form a foundation based in impeccability of alignment. This ensures that people learn to move their bodies in an integrated and intelligent way. She has a warm, compassionate style, and likes to crack a joke or two!
Katy enjoys bringing people together to foster community, and connection. There are no prerequisites for her classes. All classes are for all levels. She primarily teaches vinyasa yoga with focus on breath, alignment and a sense of well being. Katy facilitates a practice that is both grounded in tradition, and is sustainable for life.
Katy also specializes in teaching, and consulting for Corporate Yoga and Mindfulness Programs where her intention is to make yoga an accessible practice for all.
